James E. Haber
Jim Haber, born in Mpls on 9/9/27, passed away in his home in Rancho Mirage, CA on 3/28/13. His deep love for his family, his church, many organizations and those in need, flowed out of his lifelong commitment to his faith. Jim and his first wife, Lenore, lived in Sioux Falls, where Jim had Haber Carpet & Linoleum on Minnesota Ave. for over 3 decades. He was a skier, sailor, an amateur archeologist, and enjoyed traveling with his family all over the world. Jim loved to sing, whistle and play the piano, and had leading roles in community theater musicals. He and Lenore helped found St. Mark's Lutheran Church, where he served in many capacities over 4 decades. Jim held leadership roles in the Sioux Falls Symphony, Kiwanis Club, Volunteers of America, Y's Men's Club, YMCA day camp board, and in the Knife and Fork Club where he hosted Maria von Trapp, Eddie Rickenbacker, and Madam Nehru, wife of the Prime Minister of India. Jim lived his life with a great sense of adventure, compassion for others, a quick wit, and a passionate love for his family and God. He was preceded in death by Lenore in 1996. He is survived by his wife, Barbara of Rancho Mirage, CA, daughter Tania Haber (Bob Wertz) of Minneapolis, MN, son Mark Haber of St. Paul, MN, his beloved granddaughters Alexandra and Sophia Haber Wertz, nephew Tom Haber (Donna) of Sioux Falls, and other family. A Memorial service will be held at St. Mark's Lutheran Church (28th & Elmwood) in Sioux Falls on Friday, May 31 at 7:00 pm.
