John Kolb, 70 of Sioux Falls, SD, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, October 5, 2013, at the Dougherty Hospice House.
John Joseph Martin Kolb, son of Charlie and Clara (Peterson) was born on July 6, 1943, in Sioux Falls, SD. He grew up in Sioux Falls, and attended Washington High School before graduating with the first class from O'Gorman High School in 1962. John attended at the University of South Dakota and then worked at John Morrell and Company before enlisting with the Army
John was united in marriage with his sweetheart Connie Marie Voss on April 1, 1967, at the Cathedral of St. Joseph. The couple moved to Omaha, NE, where John worked at Heavy Duty Parts in the business office. The family returned to Sioux Falls, SD, and John worked as a bail bondsman and began his career in insurance. After working with various companies, he joined Midland National Life Insurance Company where he worked until ill health prevented him from continuing.
John had a passion for coaching baseball and T-ball and going for buggy rides with his children. He liked reading spiritual books, going for motorcycle rides and was a Golden Gloves Champion Boxer in his younger years. He was a member of the Cathedral of St. Joseph and organized the first Right to Life Walk in Sioux Falls. John's Catholic faith was at the core of his being, equaled only to the love he had for his family.
Grateful for having shared his life are his wife Connie Kolb, Sioux Falls, SD; children Dawn Whaler and her husband Byron, Sioux Falls, SD, Cliff Kolb, Sioux Falls, SD, Nicole Kolb-Ratzlaff, Sioux Falls, SD, Jason Kolb and his wife Jessica, Sioux Falls, SD, Maria Berens and her husband Joel, Parker, SD, John Kolb Jr., Sioux Falls, SD, Michael Kolb, Sioux Falls, SD, William Kolb and his wife Alexis, Sioux Falls, SD; brothers William Kolb and his wife Barb, Sioux Falls, SD, Tom Kolb and his wife Vicki, Sioux Falls, SD; sister Kathy Puthoff and her husband Bob, Sioux Falls, SD; brother-in-law Richard Baker, Sioux Falls, SD; sister-in-law Grace Kolb, Tea, SD; 28 grandchildren; I great-grandchild; and many other relatives and friends.
John was preceded in death by his parents Charlie and Clara; sisters Charlotte McMasters and Roberta Baker; brother Jim Kolb; and grandchildren Gavin and Marie Therese Berens.
Visitation will begin at 8 am with the family present from 5 to 7 pm and a wake service followed by a rosary at 7 pm on Wednesday, October 9, 2013, at Miller Funeral Home, 13th & Main. A Mass of Christian Burial service will be held at 11 am on Thursday, October 10, 2013, at the Cathedral of St. Joseph with burial at the St. Michael Cemetery.
