Kathryn Rose Sheeley

Kathryn Rose "Kate" Sheeley, Maple Grove, MN, passed away peacefully on April 11, 2014, from breast cancer. Born in Sioux Falls, SD, Kate graduated from WHS in 1971. She attended Gustavus Adolphus College St. Peter, MN, then worked as a graphic artist at KELOLAND TV and WCCO in Minneapolis, MN before becoming involved in the movie industry in 1998. She split her time between MN, CA, and on location.

She was a Set Decorator/Props Buyer for Television shows, TV commercials, and movies . A favorite of hers was working on the Debbie Reynolds' auction of movie memorabilia. She had just spent 6 months in Atlanta, GA, working on The Originals, a drama currently on television. She was on the Board of Directors for the Set Decorators Society of America. She was very active in an annual Art Auction on behalf of SDSA. That charity auction will now be named for her.

She loved being a member of the Los Angeles Art Deco Society and participating in activities while wearing vintage clothing with a flair. Travel was also a very high priority on her list.

Kate is survived by her mother, Doris Otterson Sheeley Buswell, Santa Ana, CA, her 25 year partner, Jeffrey Kaufer, Maple Grove, MN, a brother Tom Sheeley, Sioux Falls, SD, sister Tracy Sheeley, Bend, OR, stepbrothers Fred Buswell, Buena Park, CA and the Howard Buswell, Jr. family, Howard, Rae and Ryan , Orange, CA, cousins and very special friends. She was preceded in death by her dad, Tom Sheeley and stepdad, Howard Buswell.

Memorials can be made to MPTF (Motion Picture Television Fund), 23388 Mulholland Drive, LA, CA 91364 with Kate Sheeley, Media Room written on memo line or to a charity of donor's choice.

A celebration of Kate's life will take place on June 28, 2014 at 2 p.m. at Calvary Episcopal Cathedral in Sioux Falls, SD.
