Lawrence A. Jensen
Lawrence Alfred Jensen was born May 19, 1924 in Watauga, SD to Emil and Tilla (Naley) Jensen. He attended Matkin School southwest of Watauga and McIntosh High School. Lawrence was united in marriage to Violet (Dix) Jensen on Oct. 3, 1947.
After farming on the Dix homestead for seven years, Lawrence and Violet moved with their two children, Larry and Becky, to Lemmon, SD, where Lawrence worked in John Deere and Ford sales. Later, Lawrence became part owner and manager of the John Deere/Ford Implement. While living in Lemmon, Lawrence and Violet were active members in the Spencer Memorial Presbyterian Church, where Lawrence served as an Elder and sang in the choir. He was also a member of the Chamber of Commerce and the Lions Club.
In 1987, Lawrence and Violet moved to Sioux Falls, SD, where Lawrence continued to work part time (Harold's Photography, Sioux Falls Ford, Sioux Valley Hospital, and Saturn) and volunteer (SFPS Athletics, Center for Active Generations) until he was 83. He continued to share his gift of singing as a member of the Norse Glee Club for several years.
Lawrence was called home to be with his Lord and Savior on Nov. 5, 2013. Grateful for having shared his life are his best friend and wife of 66 years, Violet; son Larry (Susan) Jensen, Eagan, MN; daughter Becky (Pat) Thurman, Sioux Falls; five grandchildren: Patrick (Karen) O'Donnell, Omaha, NE; Matthew (Kenna) Jensen, Eagan, MN; Lori (John) Burrough, Suwanee, GA; Kathleen (Jeff) Hayne, Minneapolis, MN; and Karlee Jensen, Burnsville, MN; seven great-grandchildren: Parker, Peyton, and Riley Jensen, Madison and Makias Burrough, and Bodhi and Hudson Hayne; four step-grandchildren; fourteen step-great grandchildren; and three step-great- great grandchildren; one sister Norma Hickman, Falls Church, VA; one sister-in-law Eileen Smith, Bowman, ND; and several special nieces and nephews. His family will hold his love in their hearts forever.
The family will be present for visitation from 5:00 to 7:00 pm on Thursday, Nov. 7 at the Heritage Funeral Home. A memorial service will be held at the First Presbyterian Church on Friday, Nov. 8 at 1:00 pm. Lawrence was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, and two sisters. www.heritagesfsd.com
