Lisa Kay Hofer
Lisa Kay Hofer, age 48, passed away on October 2, 2013 at Dougherty Hospice House in Sioux Falls, SD.
Lisa, beloved daughter of Edward and Margaret (Ladner) Hofer, was born June, 22, 1965 in Aberdeen, SD. She grew up on the family farm near Bath, SD. Lisa attended school in Aberdeen and graduated from Central High School in 1983.
On September 6, 1984 Lisa was united in marriage with Jerry Leafgreen. Lisa, Jerry, and their daughter Alicia then moved to Hawaii where Jerry served in the United States Marine Corps. Throughout Jerry's military service, the family lived in Hawaii, Germany, and Manhattan, Kansas. During this time, Lisa was a full-time mother and volunteered at her daughter's school serving lunch. While in Manhattan, Kansas, their son, Errol was born. After Errol's birth, Jerry was called to duty in Operation Desert Storm.
When Jerry retired from the military, the family moved to Brandon, SD. Lisa began working at John Morrell in 1994. Lisa's 19 year career with John Morrell started in the cashier's department and she was presently employed in the accounting department. She was a member of the UFCW Local 304A.
During her lifetime, Lisa enjoyed time with her family and friends. Lisa loved flowers, animals, and collecting vases. She served as President of the Orchid Club in Sioux Falls. Orchids were her favorite flower and Lisa collected and cared for many orchids over the years. The family enjoyed scouting antique shops for vases and other collectibles. Lisa especially loved her cat of fifteen years, Misty (aka Mr. Mistoffelees). Misty is now at home with Lisa's best friend and John Morrell co-worker, Dawn Nelson. Dawn and many other special people were by Lisa's side throughout her illness.
Lisa is survived by her daughter, Alicia Leafgreen of Minneapolis; son, Errol Leafgreen of Sioux Falls; grandmother, Marjorie Hofer of Aberdeen, her parents Edward and Margaret Hofer of Bath, her sister, Lauri (Daniel) O'Hara of Aberdeen, brother Eric (DeeAnn) Hofer of Bath, and many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, and treasured friends who loved her dearly. She was preceded in death by Jerry Leafgreen, her grandfather, Everett Hofer, grandmother, Irene Hofer, and her cousin Teri Sharp.
Funeral Services will be at 2:00pm Monday, October 7, 2013 at Heritage Funeral Home, 4800 S. Minnesota Avenue, Sioux Falls, SD. Visitation will be from 3:00-7:00pm Sunday, October 6, 2013 at Heritage Funeral Home with the family present from 5:00-7:00pm.
