Lloyd "Gene" Sawinsky
Sioux Falls - Lloyd "Gene" Sawinsky died Wednesday, April 30, 2014, at the Avera McKennan Hospital. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, May 10, 2014, at Sunnycrest United Methodist Church in Sioux Falls.
Lloyd Eugene Sawinsky (Gene) was born to Hazel Drown Sawinsky and Lloyd A. Sawinsky on April 27, 1924, in Selby, SD. He attended rural school and grade school in Selby, and graduated from Selby High School in 1941 where he excelled in Track and Baseball. In 1943, Gene enlisted in the Army
Air Corp and served as a B-24 Navigator until his honorary discharge in 1945.
Gene then attended Northern State College in Aberdeen, SD and played football under Clark Swisher. After graduating from college, he taught high school and coached for four years. On May 21, 1950 he was married to Beverly O. Kimmel in Wilmot, SD. In 1955, Gene entered the FBI as a Special Agent and served in St. Louis, Detroit, and Las Vegas until his retirement.
Following retirement from the Justice Department, he was employed by MLT Vacations out of Minneapolis, MN. Both he and Beverly very much enjoyed working for this tour company bringing Midwesterners to Las Vegas for vacations. In 2004, Gene and Beverly retired and moved to Sioux Falls, SD. During their years in Sioux Falls, Gene enjoyed watching TV sports, reading, golfing, and especially enjoyed the men's morning coffees.
Gene leaves to mourn his wife of 64 years, Beverly; his sister Sybil Sedivy and husband Wes, Spencer, NE; his sister Mary Lamont, Aberdeen, SD; his brother-in-law Bob Kimmel and wife LaVerne, Wilmot, SD; nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.
