Raphael C. Eichacker was born to Joe and Ann (Paweltzki) Eichacker south of Bridgewater, SD. As a young child the family moved to Salem where he graduated from St. Mary's High School. On April 15, 1961 he married Judy Sabers at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Salem. They lived in the Salem area together where they raised their family and farmed.
Raphael was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, McCook/Miner/Lake Cattlemen's Association, South Dakota Simmental Association and Knights of Columbus. He loved hunting, fishing, playing cards with the boys, but it was his passion for cattle that woke him at sunrise most every morning. His new found love for gardening kept Judy busy in the kitchen canning and baking all summer. If time allowed at the end of the day, he would be found sitting in the sunroom reading stacks of farming and cattle magazines. Raphael was best known for his gentle nature, optimistic attitude, generosity and friendly smile. He was always on the lookout for a good conversation, and was very insightful with what he had to say. He was dedicated to his family, and his character will live on through each and every one of them.
Raphael is survived by his wife, Judy of Salem; two sons, Steve (Cathy) of Salem and Greg of Sioux Falls; one daughter Bridgett (John) Baumiller of Sioux Falls; four grandchildren, Amanda (Dana) Buttemeier, Nick and Adam Eichacker, and Brady Baumiller; one great-grandchild, Hunter Buttemeier; five brothers, Lyle (Helene) of Salem, Leonard (Marilyn) of The Villages, FL, Don (Elaine) of Salem, Chuck (JoAnn) of Jensen Beach, FL, and George (Carla) of Salem; one sister, JoAnn (Jim) Mentele of Midland, MI; and one sister-in-law Jeanette (Glen) Eichacker-McVay of Sioux Falls. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, John. www.kinzleyfh.com
