Ravonna Deon Lassle, 86 of Sioux Falls formerly of the Whitewood, SD area passed away peacefully, Sunday, June 30, 2013 at Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls. She was born January 21, 1927 in Minneapolis, MN the daughter of Evar and Nortina (Swanson) Nelson. While living in Minneapolis she attended Minnehaha Academy High School and Augsburg College, then later she worked in various offices in the secretarial field. She moved to California in 1950 where she was introduced to her future husband, Robert Lassle by his cousin. They were united in marriage on August 24, 1956 in Glendale, CA and then made their home in Azusa, CA. They moved to Nisland, SD, in 1970 where they bought what was then known as Lassle's Service, a gas station and grocery store. After twenty years of owning and operating the store they sold it in 1990 and moved to rural Whitewood. Robert passed away in 1997. She moved to Sturgis in 2000 and to Sioux Falls in 2005.
Ravonna served as the pianist at the Nisland Independent Community Church. She enjoyed quilting and made quilts that were distributed by Lutheran World Relief. When she moved to Whitewood she continued to play the piano in her new church home, Black Hills Baptist Church. In Sioux Falls, she was a resident assistant at Sunnycrest Apartments and served as a senior companion. She was a woman who had a very strong faith and loved her children and grandchildren.
Grateful for having shared her life are: her children, Glenn Lassle, Deon Fox, Palm Springs, CA and Karen (Kevin) Congdon, Sioux Falls, SD; one brother, Jay Nelson, West Bend, WI; 5 grandchildren, Tamara, Nicole, Robert, Amelia and Jacob and 3 great grandchildren, Suriana, Sydney and Sophia.
Funeral services in Sioux Falls will be held at Living Word Free Lutheran Church on Wednesday, July 3 at 10:30 a.m. with visitation one hour prior to the funeral. Funeral services in Whitewood will be held at Black Hills Baptist Church on Friday, July 5 at 11:30 a.m. A private family committal service will be held at Black Hills National Cemetery on Friday at 10:30 a.m. Heritage Funeral Home; Sioux Falls is in charge of arrangements. www.heritagesfsd.com
