Joplin, MO - Robert C. Johnson, age 77, passed away Thursday, January 24, 2013 at his home in Joplin, MO. Funeral mass will begin at 10:00 AM on Saturday, February 2, 2013 at St. Michael Catholic Church in Sioux Falls. The family will be present to greet friends for visitation at 5:00 PM on Friday February 1, 2013 at George Boom Funeral Home with Liturgical Wake Service beginning at 6:30 PM. The Holy Rosary will follow.

Robert C. Johnson was born on August 9, 1935 in O'Neill, Nebraska to Claude and Jeannette (Protivinsky) Johnson. He moved to Sioux Falls in 1938 with his family and attended school at the Cathedral graduating in 1953. Robert enlisted in the US Army and was honorably discharged in 1954. Follow his service, he began working for SF Bakers Shoes from 1955-1960. He continued his work as a manager in the shoe industry in Worthington, Minnesota from 1960-1970 and in Albuquerque, New Mexico from 1970-1978. Upon his return to Sioux Falls, he worked as a contract employee for the Argus Leader. Robert was a lifetime member of the DAV and a 4th Degree Knight of Columbus.

Grateful for having shared his life are his wife, Sharon of Joplin, MO; four children, Daniel (Judy) Johnson of Worthington, MN, Deborah (Vince) Pontillo of Joplin, MO, David (Jo Jean Schulte) Johnson of Sioux Falls, and Duane (Tami) Johnson of Sioux Falls; daughter in law, Tammy Johnson of Loveland, CO; 11 grandchildren, Mike, Josh, Cody, Tiffany, Austin, David, Nichol, Bobby, Joe, Doug and Adam; 11 great grandchildren, Cameron, Spencer, Chase, Mercedes, Abigail, Avalon, Tyanna, Zaden, Taylor, Donavan, and Hanna; many dear relatives and friends.

Robert was preceded in death by his parents; sons, Darren, Douglas and Donald; sister, Barbara Dump-Callahan; brothers, Joe and Jim Johnson.

In lieu of flowers, memorials in Robert's name may be directed to The Banquet or The Food Pantry.
