Sylvester Nieber

Sylvester Nieber, 88, Watertown, SD died December 22, 2013 at Prairie Lakes Hospital in Watertown. Sylvester Gerald Nieber was born to Otto and Rosetta (Fye) Nieber, September 2, 1925 in Sioux Falls, SD. He graduated from Washington Senior High School in Sioux Falls. He was inducted into the US Army Dec. 23, 1943, serving January 13, 1944 to April 27, 1946 during World War II and in the Pacific. He was a hard working carpenter who took great pride in his craft and his children. He was a co-owner of Kepner Roofing before retiring. He put his "You Betcha" spirit into everything he endeavored from serving in the Army, to teaching his kids how to swim, to being Grand Knight of the Knights of Columbus. Survivors are: his special friend, Peggy Herrmann of Watertown; his friend and the mother of his children, Peg Nieber; his children, Barbara (Steve) Johnson of Lake Manawa, IA, Kathleen (Richard) Nieber-Lathrop of Middleton, WI, Robin Lane of Omaha, NE, Susan (Kevin) Palmer of Lincoln, NE and Kim (Mike) Kenyon of Prescott, AZ; his brother, Ronald (Mary Alice) Nieber of Sioux Falls, SD; 19 grandchildren; and 11 great grandchildren; Peggy's children, Joe (Dianne) Herrmann and Richard (Collette) Herrmann, Tom (Suwah) Herrmann, Lynn Herrmann and Jane Herrmann. Preceded in death: by his parents; his son, Gerald Francis Nieber; and 2 sisters, Etta Mullen and Gladys Bresser. "We love you, Dad, and will be forever reminded of you when we look into our children and grandchildren's Full-of-Life eyes!" There will be no services at this time.
