Lavern Lee "Vern" Harden, 65, of Entiat, WA, passed away at his home on Monday, May 13, 2013, following a sudden illness. He was born January 13, 1948, at Sioux Falls, SD, to the late Lloyd Harden and Harriet (Foulke) Harden Herrick. He was raised through the beginning of high school in Sioux Falls prior to moving to Timber Lake, SD, where he graduated. He then entered the U.S. Air Force
. While stationed at Mountain Home Air Force Base in southern Idaho, he met Donna Wathen. They were later married and eventually made their home together in Yakima, WA. He moved to Entiat in 1997.
Vern worked first for a fire protection and equipment company before working for United Totalizer as an electronics repairman. He also worked for Daktronics installing major score boards around the country. Most recently, he had been working in the heavy construction industry as a member of the Western Washington Laborers Union just prior to his recent retirement. He owned karaoke equipment and was currently operating in Leavenworth.
Vern was proceeded in death by his parents and his wife, Donna, who died on April 15, 1980, when his son was 2 years old.
He is survived by his son, Erik Jason Harden, two grandchildren, Donna Kay Lorraine Harden and Nathan Michael Harden, all of Sammamish, WA; two brothers, Lyle (Mary) Harden of Marion, NC, and Lynn (Tracy) Harden, of Yakima, WA; two sisters, Lucille Middleton, of Sioux Falls, SD, and Laura (Ed) Thompson, of Moberly, MO; and a longtime friend, Kathy Strain, of Entiat.
A Celebration of Life service will be held on Thursday, May 23, 2013, at 2 p.m. at Brookside Funeral Home, in Moxee, WA. Inurnment with Military Honors will follow in Terrace Heights Memorial Park, in Yakima, WA.
