In the short time I knew him while taking care of him in-home he was a truly kind and knowledgeable man that had a great sense of humor and huge heart. It was a privilege working with him.

My sympathy to Walt's family...I remember him fondly as "Weary Willie" in the Hobo Day Parade as I also walked the route as a "bum" that year! Although I was a Math Major (Class of 1951) I was active in many groups and enjoyed knowing Walt and his great work for State during many years!

To Marge, Christy and family--please know how much I admired and appreciated Walt for the many years that I had the honor to know and work with him. I pray that your sadness and sense of loss will be somewhat lightened by knowledge of the gift of joy and laughter he brought to all he touched during his extraordinary life of service and commitment to his family, friends, and his beloved state of South Dakota.

Walt was a classmate at SDSU and a friend after college, in DC and Brookings during his lifetime. I was his student body Vice president at SDSU. I was also in the Brookings Rotary club with Walt and he followed me as the president of that club. We extend our sympathy to his family. LaVerne '52 and Frances Andersh, Rogers, AR

As a former QCB staffer, I can attest to the joy of seeing Walt and Marge walk through the door. It was a privilege to share in a small slice of their lives as they brightened ours with their presence. My sympathy to Marge and Christy (and family). Praying that you may find peace in the midst of your grief.

Walt was a real Gentleman all the 60 years that I knew him. First at SDSU, then in his work in Washington, DC, and then as head man at the SDSU Foundation. His contribution to SDSU and the South Dakota Republican Party will last for many years.

Walt and Marge were friends of my parents, Jack and Eleanore Stahl, while the men worked for Karl Mundt in the '60s and part of the '70s. Gene and I got to know Walt when I worked for the Mundt Foundation in Madison. So knowledgeable, so kind and always smiling - what better memories could I have of a man I'd known and admired for at least 50 years! Everyone who knew him will morn his passing. Margie Phillips

Sorry to learn of Walts's passing, my heart goes out to the family. He was always such a positive person. No matter the problem, Walt was always able to put it in perspective, then help reach a resolution, and generally with a smile and that signature chuckle. When you are in DC, that meant a lot to a small town kid fresh out of college. Walt had a positive effect on may lives and will be missed.

My deepest condolences to the family. I had the pleasure of working with Walt in Washington, DC. Who wouldn't love him as a boss? He was kind, fair and approachable among many other fine qualities. It was great keeping in touch with him, Marge and Christy over the years. He loved and was loved in return and will be greatly missed.

My thoughts, sympathy and prayers are with you all. Words can not explain what a wonderful spirit Walt had. He certainly was a great statesman. We so cherished his valuable knowledge and input as he served as a Board Member for The Museum of Visual Materials. He will be missed. Psalm 23.
