Service for Alan R. Purintun, 84, of De Smet, will be held on Saturday, January 26, 2013 at 1:30 PM at theUnited Church of Christ in De Smet, SD. Visitation will be on Friday from 5-7 PM at the Osthus Funeral Home in De Smet. Private burial will be held prior to services on Saturday.
Alan Ross Purintun was born on November 19, 1928 at home in De Smet. He was welcomed by his parents, Joseph O. and Florette (Wheat) Purintun along with his siblings, Theodore, Mildred, Helen, Orin and Robert. Alan passed away on January 23, 2013.
He graduated from De Smet High School in 1946 after which he entered the University of Nebraska obtaining a degree in 1950. He attended law school at the University of South Dakota obtaining his degree in 1952.
In association with Harry J. Eggen and E. F. Wilkinson, he practiced law in De Smet until being appointed Kingsbury County Judge in 1955. He served Miner County for a number of years in the same capacity. Alan succeeded his father as an abstractor in Kingsbury County until he retired in 1994.
Alan was united in marriage to Mary Jane Eggen on August 6, 1950 in the First Congregational Church of De Smet. To this union, six children were born.
He was active with civic activities until his health limited his participation. Alan was on many church boards, sang in the choir, served as Sunday school superintendant, and was the longest living member of the UCC Church residing in De Smet. He was an original member of the De Smet Kiwanis, sixty year member of the Masonic Lodge and past Master and served as clerk at the De Smet School Board for many years. Alan became a member of the State Bar Association of South Dakota on September 8, 1952 and had received recognition for being a 50 year member in 2002.
Those grateful for having Alan in their life are his wife, Mary Jane (Dollie) of De Smet; Dr. Scott (Trisha) Purintun of Britton, SD, Ross Purintun of Bellevue, WA, Mark (Susan) Purintun of De Smet, Mary Jo (Robert) Robish of Redwood Falls, MN, Jay Purintun of Sugar Creek, MO, and Julie (Lee) Howell of Sioux Falls; 11 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; and twin great-grandchildren due to arrive very soon; and other relatives
Alan is preceded in death by his parents and all of his brothers and sisters.
