Betty (Donahoe) Davis

Betty (Donahoe) Davis, 98, of Sioux Falls, passed away Friday, November 18, 2016.

Visitation with the family present will be from 5:00 - 6:30 pm with a Liturgical Wake service at 6:30 pm Tuesday, November 22, at Miller Funeral Home-Downtown, 507 S. Main Ave.

Funeral Mass will be 10:00 am Wednesday, November 23, at Halladay-Petersen Chapel at Dow Rummel Village, 1321 W. Dow Rummel Street with burial at St. Michael Cemetery.

Betty Donahoe, daughter of Dr. Will and Florence (Flemming) Donahoe, was born November 3, 1918 in Sioux Falls, SD. She attended Cathedral Grade School and Cathedral High School. She continued her education at Rosary College, now known as Dominic University, where she graduated in 1941. She began working with Catholic Charities in Omaha, NE as a social worker in the Child Welfare Division. She did home studies, and under supervision she placed babies up for adoption. After two years she returned to Sioux Falls, SD where she worked for South Dakota State Child Welfare until 1945.

Betty was united in marriage with Jerald "Piker" Davis on June 25, 1945 in Sioux Falls, SD.

She was a life member of the McKennan Hospital Auxiliary, and one of the first "Pink Lady" at McKennan Hospital where she had volunteered for 40 years. She served as president of the Auxiliary and served as chairman for the charity ball. She was a member of Catholic Daughters and Catholic Literary Society. President of St. Mary's Alter Society. She was a life member at Minnehaha Country Club and avid golfer. She instigated the "Hostess Program" at Miller Funeral Home under the direction of Al Iverson where she served for 14 years.

She is survived by four children, Linda Beulke, Yankton, SD, Virginia (Robert) Macy, Yankton, SD, William (Katherine) Davis, Denver, CO, John (Colleen) Davis, Yankton, SD; 20 grandchildren; 21 great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and her husband, Jerald "Piker" Davis; and her sister, Virginia Donahoe.
