Bud Leafgreen Obituary
"Bud" Leafgreen

Floyd "Bud" E. Leafgreen, 87, of Pierre, passed away Sat., Sept. 28, 2013 at Avera St. Mary's Hospital. Visitation will be Thurs., Oct. 3, 2013 from 5-7pm at Feigum Funeral Home, with a prayer service at 7pm. Funeral Services will be at 10:30am, Friday, Oct. 4, 2013 at First United Methodist Church. Burial will follow at Riverside Cemetery.

Bud was born January 18, 1926 to Cleo and Anna (Houdek) Leafgreen in Orient, SD. He grew up in Orient attending grade school and high school there until joining the Army in 1944. During his basic training he sustained an injury that led to a transfer to the Air Force. There he became a nose gunner and served until 1946. After his service in the Air Force at the end of the war, he returned to Orient and rejoined his family. He married Mildred Leesman in McCook, NE in 1945. To this union were born three children: Karen, Connie, and Ronnie. The family made their home in Ft. Pierre where Bud worked for various farmers and ranchers in the Pierre/Ft. Pierre area including Bob O'Day (for whom he worked for over 14 years). In the late 1960's he went to work as a salesman for Rankin Implement. He later worked for Case Power and Equipment where he took early retirement in 1982. Never one to sit around he then worked part time for Larry Fryer's Massey Ferguson dealership until 1985. Bud married Joyce Bren-Magnusson on October 2, 1970. He became dad to Joyce's son Jeff with whom he remained close. When Bud wasn't making a deal on a tractor, trailer house, or vehicle, for many years you would find him raising and racing quarter horses. He and Joyce enjoyed the hobby for many years. His other passions included bird and big game hunting, fishing and playing cards. One of his greatest delights was playing a game of pinochle or poker. He ran his own card room, "Bud's Place", for many years before his health declined. He will be fondly remembered as a kind, caring and very giving man who will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

Grateful for having shared in his life are his wife, Joyce of Pierre; his children: Karen K. Harmon (Larry) of Temple, TX, Connie F. Kiplinger (John) of Mesa, AZ, Ronnie L. Leafgreen of Monte Vista, CO and Jeff "Jessie" Magnusson of Pierre; his brother, Gary Leafgreen (Mickey) of Sioux Falls, SD; his sister, Jen Simonson (Erv) of Highmore, SD; four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, parents-in-law Adolf and Loveda Bren, sister Bernetta Conway, daughter-in-law Paularae Morris, and granddaughter Sheila Hofer. Condolences may be conveyed to the family at
