Deloris Nelson

Nelson, Deloris Mildred (Hanson) of Apple Valley, MN, age 93, died March 14, 2013, surrounded by her family. Deloris was born October 4, 1919, in Hayti, SD. She graduated from high school in Watertown, SD, and from Augustana College, SD. On February 14, 1945, Deloris was united in marriage to Rev. Richard N. Nelson. Together they served Lutheran parishes in Lennox and Flandreau, SD, Grace, St. Paul, Prince of Peace, Burnsville, and Calvary,Golden Valley, MN. They celebrated 68 years of marriage last month. From 1958-1962 Richard, Deloris and family lived in Geneva, Switzerland, where Richard served with the Lutheran World Federation. During these 64 years of ministry, Deloris was a devoted and supportive pastor's wife. A superb hostess, Deloris enjoyed entertaining family, friends and guests. She loved her family deeply and cherished her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Deloris wrote countless letters and cards to her family and friends. She and Richard traveled throughout Europe and music was a big part of her life. She will be fondly remembered by all who knew her gracious spirit. Grateful for having shared her life are her family: husband, Richard; son, Paul (Linda) Nelson; daughter, Marie (John) James; daughter, Jean Nelson; seven grandchildren, Kristen (Seth) Detert, Kari Nelson, John (Meghan) James V, Christopher (Hannah) James, David (Melita) Bergan, Michael (Jenny) Bergan, John Bergan, and 5 great-grandchildren. Deloris is also survived by sister, Arleen Larson; brother, Arden Hanson, sisters-in-law, Doris Gjervik and Elizabeth Nelson, and brother-in-law, Stan Clothier. She was preceded in death by her parents and sister, Lucille Clothier. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, March 19, 2013, at Calvary Lutheran Church, Golden Valley, MN, with visitation one hour prior. Interment will be at Lakewood Cemetery. On Monday, March 18, 2013, visitation will be held from 6-7:30 pm. at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church, Burnsville, MN, with a prayer service following.
