Dorothy Susanna (Leisen) Howe was born on June 1, 1931 in Aberdeen, SD to Michael and Ruth (Hay) Leisen. She spent part of her childhood years in Michigan with her parents. Upon becoming ill, she moved back with her grandparents west of Aberdeen. Her parents moved back home and she was living with them at the time of her graduation.

Dorothy married Frank Howe on August 25, 1948 at Aberdeen. Following their marriage, the couple farmed near Chelsea, SD before moving to the Cresbard area, where they raised their family. In 1982, Dorothy and Frank moved to Faulkton and resided there until 1997, when they moved to Aberdeen. Dorothy was diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease approximately 10 years ago and resided at the Faulkton Health Care Center until the time of her death.

Dorothy was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Aberdeen and was a past member of the Cresbard American Legion Auxiliary, the Foster Grandparents Program, and the Catholic Daughters of the Americas.

Dorothy was an avid Bridge player and bowler. She loved her family unconditionally and rejoiced in having a large family to take care of. Her grandkids were the joy of her life and she loved watching them grow and spoiling them whenever she could. As a wife, grandma, great- grandma and great great-grandma, she will be missed but will remain forever in our hearts.

Survivors include her children, Robert (Evie) Howe of Sioux Falls, SD, Randall (Ledy) Howe of Prospect, CT, Richard (Pam) Howe of Tea, SD, Deborah (Gary) Twedt of Sioux Falls, SD, Russell (Annie) Howe of Bath, SD, Frank (Joy) Howe of Brandon, SD and Kim (Mike) Grote of Mina, SD; 34 grandchildren; 45 great-grandchildren; and one great great-grandchild.
