Genevieve Ann Hegerfeld

Elkton - Genevieve Ann Hegerfeld, 86, passed away Sunday, March 16, 2014 at home with her family at her side. Genevieve Ann Hurney was born May 15, 1927 at Elkton, SD to Tom and Mary (Kelly) Hurney and was the oldest of 11 children. G'Ann attended Saint Mary's Catholic School and graduated from Elkton High School. After spending time caring for her siblings, she attended General Beadle College and received a teaching certificate. G'Ann taught country school for two years prior to her marriage to H.E. (Jack) Hegerfeld in Elkton on September 25, 1950. They had six children. G'Ann took great pleasure in providing for her family, caring for her home, being an active part of the Elkton community and belonged to many service organizations. She enjoyed gardening, traveling, needle work, baking and volunteering. G'Ann was especially known for her homemade rye bread and Holiday baking.

G'Ann is lovingly remembered by her husband Jack; six children, Annie (Hartman) Erickson of Burnsville, MN, Fred (Laura) Hegerfeld of Elkton, Mary (Tim) Harvey of Brookings, Sue (John) Davis of Anchorage, Chuck (Toni) Hegerfeld of Elkton and Pat Munich of Sioux Falls; 19 grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, seven sisters, three brothers and many nieces and nephews. G'Ann was preceded in death by her parents. Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 AM Saturday, March 22, 2014 at Our Lady of Good Counsel Catholic Church with burial in St. Mary's Cemetery. Visitation is 5 - 7 pm Friday at the church with a 7:00 pm scripture service. www.skrochfc.com
