Jean Culhane, Sioux Falls, SD, died Wednesday, November 13, 2013, at Covington Heights Healthcare Center in Sioux Falls. She was 78.
Jean LaVay Culhane was born on November 24, 1934, in Plankinton, SD, to Frank and Viola (Knutson) Hohbach. She graduated from Plankinton High School.
Jean was united in marriage to Harold Kortum in 1953. The couple moved to Presho, SD, where they raised their four children. Later, Jean moved to Pierre, SD, where she worked for the State of South Dakota.
In 1994, Jean married Tom Culhane. They lived happily together for 18 years in Sioux Falls. Tom passed away in 2012. Family members left to cherish Jean's memories are her four children, Cindy Clark (Dan), Winner SD, Doug Kortum (Tammy) Ft. Pierre SD, Pamela Guidry, Manvel, TX, and Denise Winckler (Steve), of Anderson TX; 8 grandchildren; and 3 great-grandchildren; brothers, Gordon Hohbach (Carol), Ken Hohbach (Karen); sisters, Judy Strong, Virginia Klose (Marvin Stavig), Diane Jensen (Ronald), LeeAnn VanZee (Jerry), Karla Matz (Jerry), and Bonnie Christiansen (David). Jean was also blessed to have a special bond with her extended family from her marriage to Tom. Family members included Jeff, Kelly, Mary Jo, and their extended families. She was also preceded in death by her parents.
Jean was an active member of Peace Lutheran Church and was involved in many activities there. She enjoyed reading her Bible, attending Friday morning Bible studies, and listening to contemporary Christian music.
Services to celebrate Jean's life will be held at 10:00 am, Monday November 18, 2013, at Miller West Funeral Chapel, 6200 W. 41st Street. The family will be present to greet friends following the service.
