Lorine Peskey Obituary
Peskey, Lorine C.

On February 7, 2013 Lorine Caroline Peskey fell asleep in Christ in her son John's arms. She was 95 years old. Born September 3, 1917 to Bertha and Christian Harnisch, she was the eldest of three children. Raised on the family homestead in rural Freeman, SD, Lorine recalled hard, hard farm work; living through the Great Depression and the "Dirty Thirties"; sleigh rides using heated rocks for warmth; Christmas trees lighted with candles; and the smell of lilacs each spring.

After high school, Lorine attended and graduated Nettleton Business College and then went on to work at various jobs including AAA, Borgen Chevrolet, Longfellow Elementary School, and Augustana College. Borgen Chevrolet is where she met "the love of her life", Walter Peskey. She and Walter married June 1, 1947 and lived in Sioux Falls, SD. They adopted their sons James August 5, 1956 and John August 3, 1961. On October 8, 1988 Walter passed from cancer.

Because sewing and math were Lorine's passions, she soon became known as an expert seamstress. She also loved to sew doll clothes and invited many into her home serving coffee and her legendary gingersnaps. Her joys included a beautiful flower garden, walking (especially with Cobber), writing letters to those she loved, and listening to classical music, (her favorite was Mozart's "Eine Kleine Nachtmusik"). With her love of God, family, and friends, she walked through this life presenting us with her "sweet smile."

Lorine was preceded in death by her husband, Walter Peskey; her parents, Bertha and Christian Harnisch; her sister, Alvera McGraw; and her brother Frederick Harnisch.

Lorine is survived by her sons, James (Rhonda) Peskey and John (Vickie) Peskey; her grandchildren, Aaron, Hannah, Jarron, Jacob, and Maggie; sister-in-law Velda Zeeck; brother-in-law Armand (Lenora) Peskey; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Lorine's wish was to be cremated and have her ashes buried next to her husband at Woodlawn Cemetery, 2011 S. Cliff Ave., Sioux Falls, SD. Burial will be held on February 16, 2013 at 10am with a memorial service following the committal at Our Savior's Lutheran Church, 909 W. 33rd St., Sioux Falls, SD at 11am. A reception will be held in the church after the services. Memorials in Lorine's name are suggested to the Sioux Falls Humane Society, 3720 E.
