Lotus Corrinne (Ogle) Blechinger was born the second of three children to Ethel and R.G. Ogle in Clarinda, IA, on June 1, 1930. In 1932, her father was transferred to Watertown, SD as manager of Swift and Company. In the height of the depression, driving on gravel roads north, her mother expressed she felt she was being taken off the edge of the earth, compared to lush and green southern Iowa land. In 1935, her father was again transferred to Marshall, MN, where they remained and was considered her home town.

Lotus graduated from Marshall High School in 1948, and was the head majorette in High School, involved in music, art, voice, and piano, later having a radio show at college. Lotus was the Minnesota Centennial Queen for Lincoln and Lyon Counties in 1949. She later attended SDSC in Brookings the following fall. It was there she met her future husband, Frank Blechinger, who was the student body president. The couple would be united in marriage in 1949. They went to the University of Illinois at Urbana, IL, to continue Frank's education for a Master's Degree in Engineering, Lotus worked as a secretary to the Dean of the College of Education. After graduation, they moved to Omaha, NE, for the next 16 years, building their first home and having three children. In 1967, the family moved to Sioux Falls, SD.

Lotus was active in Sioux Falls, receiving a life membership from her peers as President of the PTA. She was involved with Girl Scouts, Cub Scouts Church groups, and Women's Society as Chairman. Lotus was an avid tennis and golf enthusiast for many years, attaining national recognition for SD Women in 1979 by lowering her handicap by 18 strokes in a single year, and loving the game for many more years. She belonged to Minnehaha Country Club and Elmwood Golf Course. Lotus also enjoyed travelling and had many trips around the United States and Europe.

Lotus' greatest joy and blessing, was being a mother of three wonderful children and to have time with her two angelic granddaughters, and having a career as their homemaker.

Lotus' family include: her three children, Julie Blechinger of Sioux Falls, Robert Blechinger of Sioux Falls, and Richard (Lori) Blechinger of Sioux Falls; two grandchildren, Lily and Kennedy Blechinger of Sioux Falls; one brother, Richard G. Ogle of Indio, CA and Alexandria, MN; sister-in-law, Jeannie Ogle of Randolph, MN; and several other nieces and nephews. Lotus was preceded in death by: her husband, Frank; her parents, and her older brother Earle Ogle.
