Marilyn J. Cox, 80 of Sioux Falls passed away Thursday, February 6, 2014. She was born February 7, 1933 in Des Moines, IA, the daughter of Harold and Elizabeth Brown. She grew up in Des Moines and graduated with a bachelor's degree from the University of Iowa. She was united in marriage to George Cox on August 21, 1954 in Des Moines, IA. After they moved to Sioux Falls, Marilyn attended Augustana College and the University of Sioux Falls and attained a Master's degree. She first worked for Earl McCart at city hall and then she was instrumental in helping the Sioux Falls school system start libraries in the local schools. She also taught the children in the schools how to use the libraries. In April 1982 she joined the Citibank team as the Information Services technical librarian. She was responsible for maintaining, distributing and updating technical and vendor software manuals and other professional publications. As a result of her performance, Marilyn was named Super Librarian for 1986 by the American Library Association and honor given to only 4 people annually. She was a member of the Board of Directors of the Sioux Falls Community Concert's Association and a member of the American library Association.
She is survived by her husband George, 2 sons, John of Sioux Falls, Bob of Las Vegas; 5 grandchildren and one brother, Monte Brown of Des Moines, IA.
A memorial service will be held at 7:00 pm Tuesday, February 18, 2014 at Heritage Funeral Home. The family will be present one hour prior to the service to greet friends. www.heritagesfsd.com.
