Mary M. Merrigan, 88, of Vermillion, SD, passed away Monday, October 31 at the Sanford Vermillion Care Center.

Mary was born October 15, 1928 in Yankton, SD to John and Mary (Ryan) McMunigal. She attended school in Wakonda, SD, graduating in 1946. Mary graduated from Mount Marty College with her Associates degree and taught in Estelline, SD. She married Wayne "Moose" Merrigan on September 6, 1950 in Wakonda. They made their home on a farm north of Vermillion, where she farmed with her husband and worked at Home Trust Savings and Loan.

Mary was a member of the St. Agnes Catholic Church, the Catholic Daughters and the WH Over Music Museum, and was president of the Civic Council and was a recipient of the PEO Diana award. She enjoyed golfing, raising flowers, church activities and spending time with family.

Mary is survived by her four sons: Michael (Michael Petrelis) of San Francisco, CA, Thomas (Mary), Gregory (Janet) and Nicholas (Mary), all of Vermillion, eleven grandchildren, twelve great grandchildren and a brother, John McMunigal of Sioux Falls, SD. She is also survived by two sisters in law: Jean and Nancy and a brother in law, Fred.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Wayne, three sons: Steven, Todd and John Wayne, three sisters: Mary Jean, Margaret and Patricia and four brothers: Edward, Paul, Eugene and Charles.

Funeral Mass will be 10:30 AM Friday, November 4 at the St. Agnes Catholic Church in Vermillion. Visitation will be Thursday, November 3, starting at 5:00 PM with a Rosary at 6:30 PM followed by a prayer service at 7:00 PM, all at the church.
