Mary Wheeler, 85, of Sioux Falls, SD, passed away on Saturday, November 26, 2016 at Sanford Centennial Hospice Cottage.

Visitation with the family present will be 5:00 - 7:00 pm Friday, December 2, at Miller Southside Funeral Chapel, 7400 S. Minnesota Ave.

Funeral service will be at 2:00 pm Saturday, December 3, at Miller Southside Funeral Chapel, 7400 S. Minnesota Ave. with entombment at Hills of Rest Mausoleum.

Mary Lee Klicker, daughter of Henry and Thelma (Grondsdahl) Klicker, was born March 23, 1931 in Sioux Falls, SD. She grew up on the family farm near Wall Lake. She graduated from Hartford High School in 1949. As a young woman, she had worked various jobs in the Sioux Falls area. She married Clayton W. Akin Jr. in 1949. To this union they were blessed with four children, Bob, Mary Jean, Bill and Kathy. Mary had begun working at KELO in 1961 where she worked the switchboard, and moved on to TV and Radio Sales. She was later married to Glenn Wilson in 1963.

Mary was united in marriage with James Wheeler on December 28, 1973 in Sioux Falls, SD. Mary had been very active in the downtown business community, and was very well known as the "Radio Lady from KELO". She retired in 2001 after 40 years at KELO.

She had served as president of the South Dakota Federation of Women's History Club, Secretary/Treasurer Epsilon Sigma Alpha Sorority, and Board of Directors of Citizens Advisory Council for Civil Defense, Project Threshold, and Southeast Area Vocational Technical School.

Grateful for having shared her life are her four children, Bob Wilson, Sioux Falls, SD, Mary Jean (Mike) Andera, Pukwana, SD, Bill Wilson, Sioux Falls, SD, Kathy (Dan) Lewin, West Fargo, ND; three step children, Jeannie (Gary) Stokke, Sioux Falls, SD, Teri (Quentin) Everson, Sioux Falls, SD, Steve (Tammy) Wheeler, Mitchell, SD; 17 grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Thelma Klicker; siblings, James Klicker and Beverly Ann Klicker; and her husband, James Wheeler.
