Sioux Falls, SD - Melody A. Mickelberg, 69, passed away Saturday, February 15, 2014.

A visitation will begin at 12:00 pm Wednesday, February 19, 2014, at Miller Funeral Home, 507 S. Main Ave., with the family present from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm. A funeral service will begin at 1:00 pm Thursday, February 20, 2014, at First Baptist Church, 1401 S. Covell Ave., with burial at Hills of Rest Memorial Park.

Melody, the daughter of David and Frances (Atillio) Stewart was born January 29, 1945, in Detroit, MI. She graduated from Washington High School in Sioux Falls in 1963, and went on to attend college in Missouri.

In 1965, Melody was united in marriage with Larry Mickelberg. They had three devoted children, Melissa, David, and Ann.

After the children were grown, Melody had the significant opportunity to pursue her passion for art by going back to college where she earned her Fine Arts Degree. She later opened an art studio which provided her a creative outlet for her extensive artistic talents. Melody was also an entrepreneur, opening her own chain of beauty salons both in Sioux Falls and Dallas, TX. She was loved by her employees, and was a respected leader and valued mentor for many young women who worked for her throughout the years.

Melody was always abundantly generous toward her children and grandchildren with a seemingly endless supply of quality time, love, and talents and was truly ever present and supportive. Together, they all shared many travel adventures as well. She also enjoyed extensive travel around the world with friends, experiencing many exotic locales, which was part of her adventurous spirit and her joy of discovery and learning. Melody had a soft heart concerning all animals, and supported the Sioux Falls Humane Society in many ways. She enjoyed gardening, traveling, spending time with friends and family, reading fascinating books, and visual arts.

Grateful for having shared her life are her children, Melissa (Michael) McMunigal of Sioux Falls, David (Julie) Mickelberg of Sioux Falls, Ann (David) Roberts of Sioux Falls; seven grandchildren, Maxwell, Dunnavin, and Frances McMunigal, Margaret Ann and Peter Mickelberg, Zoe and Ben Roberts; and a host of other relatives and dear friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, David and Frances Stewart; and her beloved dog and constant companion, Sofie.

The family has requested that memorials be directed to The Sioux Falls Humane Society.
