Merle Wayne Bushman, 84, died unexpectedly, Sunday, June 9, 2013. He was born October 1, 1928 near Lake Benton, MN to Lee and Laura (Johannsen) Bushman. In 1946 he enlisted in the Army and was stationed at Ft. Bragg, NC. Upon being honorably discharged, he returned to the family farm. On December 18, 1954 Merle was united in marriage to Violet Bakke. In the early years of their marriage he worked various road construction jobs and farmed near Lake Benton. After moving to Sioux Falls in 1963 Merle worked as a cattle buyer for the Sioux Falls Stockyard. Later he excelled as a salesman for Golden Sun Feeds, Pure Plant Food and Farmers Plant Food. In the early 1990's he began a portable grain cleaning business in ND, SD and NE and continued working in other agricultural based fields, never planning to retire. Throughout his life he enjoyed playing many types of card games and was an avid fan of the Vikings and the Twins. His number one enjoyment was getting out and driving his car through the countryside. Merle is survived by his daughters: Mona (Pete) Norris of Rawlins, WY, Karen (John) Mossefin of Lennox, SD; grandson: Matthew (fiancé, Brittney Danner) Norris of Rawlins, WY and great-granddaughters: Makenzey and Zariah Norris of Rawlins, WY. Surviving siblings are Robert (Marie) Bushman of Lake Benton, MN, Norman Bushman of Benson, AZ, Donna (Daryl) Wirt of St. Paul, MN and Jerry (Caroline) Bushman of Denton, TX. He was preceded in death by his wife, Violet, in 2012, brother Harvey Johannsen and his parents. A memorial sharing time for friends and family will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, June 15, at Zion Lutheran Church in White, SD. Dindot-Klusmann Funeral Home is assisting with arrangements.
