Monte R. Walz Obituary
Monte R. Walz

Monte Richard Walz went to his Heavenly home somewhere over the rainbow while surrounded by friends and family on March 1, 2014 in Sioux Falls, SD.

Monte was born March 26, 1957 in Aberdeen, and graduated from the University of South Dakota magna cum laude in 1979.

He married his high school sweetheart, Vicki (Hanson) Walz, on December 28, 1979 before going on to law school at Hamline University where he graduated first in his class in 1983.

Although there's no place like home, Monte loved to travel with his family. Some of his favorite places include Okoboji, San Diego, St. Petersburg, Disney World and Lambeau Field.

Monte is survived by his wife, Vicki; three treasured children, Megan and her husband Ed McAtee, Nathan Walz, and Michael Walz; siblings Michael Walz (Christy Lueck), Mark Walz (Paulette), and Michele Stegeman; many nieces and nephews; and his little dog, too. He is preceded in death by his parents Ernie and Jeanne (Guhin) Walz.

Monte was a partner at Davenport Law Firm since 1983, well respected by both colleagues and clients. He was very compassionate and generous, but wanted people to pay no attention to the man behind the curtain.

Monte loved His Lord, the Green Bay Packers, writing, the Beatles, and unintentionally making up new lyrics to songs. A heart is not judged by how much you love; but by how much you are loved by others, and Monte was loved dearly by all who knew him.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, March 6th from 6-7 pm at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church in Sioux Falls, with a Celebration of Life immediately following. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Monte R. Walz Memorial Fund through Wells Fargo.

While hearts will never be practical until they can be made unbreakable, his family is thankful for the joy he brought to their hearts. Monte was never without an intelligent and witty comment, and was an inspiration to many. Because of his strong faith we can trust in Our Lord's promise, and we know it is not goodbye, but see you later.
