Phyllis E. Jarding

Phyllis E. Jarding, 91, passed away on August 25, 2014 at Dell Rapids Nursing and Rehab Center. Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:30 am Friday, August 29 at Christ the King Catholic Church, 1501 W. 26th Street. Visitation will be at 1:00 pm Thursday at Miller Funeral Home, 507 S. Main Ave. with the family present from 5:00 pm - 7:00 pm.

Phyllis Ellen Shabino, daughter of LeRoy and Catherine "Elsie" (Johnston) Shabino, was born March 24, 1923 at Alexandria, SD. She was raised in Alexandria, graduating in 1941.

She was united in marriage with Anthony Jarding on January 25, 1942, in a Little White Chapel in Las Vegas, NV. They lived for a few years in Humboldt, SD before making their home in Sioux Falls in 1955. Phyllis was a wonderful homemaker and mother. In addition to raising their four girls, Phyllis also worked full time as a bookkeeper. Over the years she had worked with Humboldt CoOp Creamery, KISD Radio, Foster-Bell Caterpillar, Modern Press, Doll Museum, The Senior Companion Program, and after retiring still worked part-time with Pro Staff and HyVee at 49th and Louise.

Phyllis was a long time member of Christ the King Catholic Church, an active life member of both the American Legion and the VFW Ladies Auxiliaries where she had served as Jr. Vice of the Cooties. She enjoyed music and sewing.

Grateful for having shared her life are her daughters: Mary Lou (Richard) Krogh, Marcia (Ed) Pascarelli, Lyn (Steve) MacDonald, all of Sioux Falls, SD and Debbie Jarding of Minneapolis, MN; 9 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren, and 1 great-great grandchild.

Phyllis was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, and her only sister, Bonnie Slade.
