Richard (Dick) Leo Trudeau was born on March 6th, 1932 to Leo and Vera (Rosenberger) Trudeau near Elk Point, SD, where the family first homesteaded. Richard was one of four children. The family moved to Vermillion where they farmed and raised their family. Richard attended Spirit Mound country school and later graduated from Meckling High School. He met Marlene Johnson and they dated through high school.
Richard served in the Navy during the Korean conflict. He was on the battle ship USS Uvalde-AKA88 as a gunners mate.
After the war, Richard married Marlene and they began raising their family in Vermillion, Centerville and Mitchell. Richard's knowledge, passion, perfection, hard work ethic, humorous, straight shooting approach to life made him the person you wanted to be around, whether buying or selling livestock, hunting or just having a good time. Richard had a passion for livestock from his 4-H days throughout his lifetime of farming and order buying from Centerville, Hawarden, Iowa, Mitchell, Platte, Chamberlain and surrounding communities.
Richard enjoyed being around his family and friends. His hobbies consisted of dancing, playing cards, fishing, hunting, grilling and growing a bountiful garden. Ultimately, Richard's failing health lead him to the Woonsocket Nursing Home, where the loving staff became as attached to him as we did to them. Richard is survived by his wife Marlene, son Brad (Linda) of Centerville, daughter Teresa (Jim) Madsen of Watertown, son Don of Twin Falls, Idaho, son Ray (Rhonda) of Mitchell, 12 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren, many nieces, nephews and beloved friends; one brother, Jim (Marlyn) Trudeau of Sturgis.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, Dorothy Marcotte and Maxine Christopherson, an infant son and other beloved family and friends.
