Vern Alberts

Vern Alberts, 94, of Sioux Falls, died Saturday, June 14, 2014 at Southridge Health Care Center in Sioux Falls.

Vern Anthony Alberts was born October 6, 1919 in Pipestone County, MN. He grew up near Elkton, SD where he received his education, graduating from Elkton High School in 1936. Following high school, he attended business college in Omaha, NE. In May of 1941, he entered military service and served in the US Army during World War II. He received his honorable discharge from the Army in 1945.

On November 2, 1948, he was united in marriage with Ardis Seas at Elkton, SD. Vern worked in data processin for the Social Security Board, and later, following the war, worked for the Veterans Administration for over 4 years. The couple moved to Chicago where Vern worked for private service bureaus doing data processing. After living in Chicago for 20 years, they moved to Brandon, SD in 1975. Vern worked as a systems analyst for Data, Inc. from 1975 until his retirement in 1992.

For hobbies, Vern enjoyed reading, working on the computer, and in his younger years, liked to hunt and fish.

Grateful for having shared his life are his sons, Randolph Alberts of Sioux Falls, SD, Greg (Sylvia) Alberts of Flandreau, SD, and Brian Alberts of Omaha, NE; 4 grandchildren, Tony Alberts, Jennifer Alberts, Wade Alberts and Kalyn Eckert; and 8 great grandchildren. He is also survived by a brother, Leslie (Barbara) Alberts of Garden Grove, CA.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Ardis on December 21, 1003; his parents and his brothers, Bernard and Francis.

Mass of Christian Burial will begin 10:30 am Thursday at Risen Savior Catholic Church in Brandon, SD. Committal will be in the mausoleum at Hills of Rest Memorial Park. Visitation with family present will be from 5:00 to 6:00 pm Wednesday at Miller Funeral Home, Main Avenue location.
