Evonne Harris of Sioux Falls passed away on July 18, 2014, at the age of 95. She was born in Lane, SD, on March 25, 1919, the daughter of Albert and Selma Pearson. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran church. She attended elementary school in Lane and began taking piano lessons at that time. The family later moved to Wessington Springs, SD where Evonne graduated from Wessington Springs High School. She became her church organist when she was sixteen.
Evonne earned her Associates Degree from Wessington Springs College and taught in Sand Creek Consolidated School for a year. She later taught in the Timber Lake School District, in Woonsocket, and then at McKinley School in Huron.
Evonne and Estel Harris were married in Huron, SD, on February 20, 1946, upon Estel's return from Europe after WWII and his discharge from the US Army. They lived in Roslyn, Timber Lake, Howard and Sioux Falls. In each location Evonne taught piano and served as church organist.
Evonne was a member of Grace Lutheran Church, Sioux Falls, where she retired as church organist in 2008 at the age of 89. She was also a member of Chapter 1, PEO in Sioux Falls.
Evonne is survived by her children, Carolyn (David) Anderson of Wheaton, IL, Donald Harris of Madison, WI, and Kathy (Gary) Storbakken of Rugby, ND; four grandchildren, Kristin Anderson and her husband, Jon Ruiz of Inver Grove Heights, MN, Stephanie (Jason) Hollandsworth of Glen Ellyn, IL, Matthew (Susan) Anderson of Wheaton, IL and Scott Storbakken of Rugby, ND; and two great-granddaughters, Katie and Hannah Ruiz of Inver Grove Heights, MN.
Evonne was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, two brothers, Orville and Leland, a sister, Alvilda Pearson, a daughter-in-law, Midge Harris, and a grandson, Mark Anderson.
Evonne's funeral service will be 11:00 AM Tuesday, July 22 at Grace Lutheran Church, with burial at Woodlawn Cemetery. The family will greet friends one hour prior to the service starting at 10:00 AM at the church.
