Services for Elden W. Olson, 72, of Sioux City, Iowa will be 10:00 a.m. Saturday, February 9, at Larkin Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Homes with Rev. Dave Sowers officiating. Visitation will be 4 to 8 Friday, February 8, with family present 6 to 8 at the Funeral Home. Burial will be in Logan Park Cemetery. Elden died Wednesday, February 6, 2013 in Sioux City.
Elden was born August 9, 1940 in Yankton, South Dakota the son of Wilmer and Minnie (Harts) Olson. He graduated from High School in Meckling, SD. Elden continued his education in the art of welding. He entered the Army in October of 1963 and was honorably discharged in October 1965. Eldon married Lana Brunke on February 11, 1967. Together they made their home in Sioux City. Eldon worked at Roe Dairy and Toledo Scales before going to work at Knox Gelatin for over 32 years, retiring in November 2006.
He was a dedicated husband who took care of his wife throughout her illness. Lana died on March 14, 2012.
Elden was a member of Morningside Baptist Church. He loved spending time with his family and having breakfast with his friends. Eldon enjoyed gardening, woodworking, working on his cars, traveling, truck pulls and watching the old thrashers at work. He had donated over 6 gallons of blood.
He is survived by: 2 Daughters, Jill Garner of Topeka, Kansas and Amy & Matt Wieber of St. Cloud, Minnesota; 3 Grandchildren, Alex Garner, Jack Wieber and Evelyn Wieber; 1 Brother, Don & Jane Olson of Vermillion, South Dakota; 1 Sister, Aileen Hendrickson of Baltimore, Maryland; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Lana; and an infant brother.
