Lawrence P. Kapaun

Lawrence P. Kapaun, 100, of Humboldt passed away on February 13, 2013 at the home of his caretakers, Ken and Vivian Hintze, in Colton. Funeral mass will begin at 10:30 am on Monday, February 18 at St. Ann's Catholic Church in Humboldt. There will be a rosary followed by a prayer service on Sunday evening at 7 pm also at the church.

Lawrence Kapaun was born on January 15, 1913 near Montrose, SD to Charles and Theresa (Gettis) Kapaun. He grew up and attended school in the Montrose area and then enlisted in the Army. While in the army he served in WWII on the European front including Normandy. After his discharge from the military he moved to Detroit Lakes, MN where he attended GI school and began working on a dairy farm. After selling the farm Lawrence moved around the country living with his sisters before moving back to his home farm in Montrose.

Lawrence is survived by his sisters, Eva Hanisch of Sioux Falls, SD, Leila Wokash of Frazee, MN, Grace Roberts of Billings, MT, and Margret Breitzman of CA; 19 nieces and nephews and numerous great-nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, one sister, four brothers-in-law and one sister-in-law. Memorials may be made to St. Ann's Cemetery. www.kinzleyfh.com
