Esther Charlotte Winger, 94, of Sioux Falls passed away on Sunday, April 14, 2013.
She was born on August 15, 1918 in Starbuck, MN to Theodore and Eline Amundson. She graduated in 1936 as salutatorian from Starbuck High School, attended Teachers' Training in Glenwood, MN, and taught for eight years in the rural school system.
On January 27, 1946, Esther was united in marriage to William Winger of Appleton, MN. They lived in Glenwood and Redwood Falls, MN and Watertown, SD. Esther worked for Midland National Life Insurance Company in Watertown and Sioux Falls for 22 years.
Esther was an active member of St. John American Lutheran Church where she served on Prayer Ministry, the Visitation Board, Quilters, and Lydia-Dorcas Circle. She was a woman of steadfast faith in God, a cancer survivor, and an inspiration to all who knew her.
Survivors include her children Paul Winger and Ruth Ann (Mario) Ordaz and grandchildren Leesa and Eric Ordaz, Marc Nicolo, and Andrew Winger. She was preceded in death by her husband Bill, her parents, sister Vivian, and brother Maurice.
Visitation will be held at Miller Funeral Home on Friday, April 19, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Her funeral will take place at St. John American Lutheran Church on Saturday at 1:00 p.m. Refreshments will be served at the church following the committal service.
