Marvin Symes, 88, of Sioux Falls, passed away peacefully on March 14, 2013, in Mesa, AZ. He was blessed with strength and enthusiasm to be active and alert until the day he died.

Marvin was the eldest child of George and Jenny Symes and was born in Hartford, SD. He attended school in Hartford and graduated from Nettleton Business College after serving in the Navy in the South Pacific during World War II. He married his wife, Elaine Ihlen, in 1946 in Sioux Falls, and was blessed with sixty-six years of marriage. Marvin was a successful businessman working for National Manufacturing Company for thirty years before retiring in 1989. He and his wife have been active in the Sioux Falls community and First Lutheran Church for many years.

Marvin is survived by his wife, Elaine, of Sioux Falls; his son, Gary (Joy) of Boulder, CO; granddaughter, Heather Samuelson (Andrew) of Blaine, MN; great-grandsons, Logan and Brayden; grandson, Brett Symes (Meghan) of Highlands Ranch, CO; great-granddaughters, Avery and Julia; his son, Jeff (Melissa) of Westminster, CO; and granddaughter, Molly Symes of Boston, MA.

He was preceded in death by his daughter, Cheryl, his brothers, Eugene, George and Charles, and his sisters, Mary Jane and Clarice.

A celebration of his life was held in Mesa, AZ, March 22. A reception to honor Marvin and his family will be held after graveside services on Saturday, May 4, at 1:45, at First Lutheran Church in the Gathering Room.
