Esther A. Gonyo, age 93 of Madison, SD, died Monday, May 6, 2013 at Golden Living Center in Madison.
Her funeral service will begin at 2:00 pm Thursday, May 9, 2013. The Rev. Constanze Hagmaier will officiate at the Randall Funeral Home. Burial will be in the Graceland Cemetery, Madison.
Public Visitation will begin at 4:00 pm Wednesday at the funeral home and continue Thursday until service time.
Esther A. Alfson was born September 30, 1919 at Nunda, SD. she grew up in the Nunda Rutland area as one of seven children born to Elvin and Anna (Ramsey) Alfson. She attended country school and graduated from Rutland High School in 1937.
Esther was united in marriage to Howard D. Gonyo, on September 29, 1943 at Pipestone, MN. They then farmed in the Winfred area until moving to California in 1952. In 1957, they returned to South Dakota and started farming south of Franklin. She was 4-H leader for the Franklin 4-H Club.
Esther and Howard retired from farming in 1984 and moved into Madison.
Esther was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church and church circles.
Those left to cherish her memory are her son: Leslie "Jim" Gonyo, Madison, a daughter: Roberta (Bill) Ankenbauer, Topeka, KS, two grandchildren: Lori (John) Seten, Sioux Falls, Gary (Dana) Gonyo, Madison, two step grandchildren, five great grandchildren, three step great grandchildren, a sister-in-law Geneva Alfson, and a brother-in-law Bob Beck, both of Winfred, as well as many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband in 2000, a granddaughter at birth, her daughter-in-law: Cheryl Gonyo, two sisters and four brothers.
