Ray Stolaas, 86, died Tuesday, Nov. 26, 2013 at Southridge Healthcare Center, Sioux Falls. Funeral service will be at 11:00am Friday, Nov. 29, 2013 at Heritage Funeral Home, 57th and Minnesota Ave., Sioux Falls with burial at Rosehill Cemetery, Parker. Visitation will begin at 9:00am Friday prior to services.
Raymond O. Stolaas was born on October 23, 1927 at Kensington, MN to Carl and Henrica (Hatleli) Stolaas. He grew up in Minnesota and graduated from Mechanic Arts High School in St. Paul. After graduating from Augustana College he served in the US Army, having been stationed in Germany. On March 25, 1951 he was united in marriage to Jeannine Benney at Parker. He taught and was the band director at Archer, IA and Lennox, SD, before receiving his Masters degree from USD, Vermillion. In 1961 he started his association with New York Life as an agent and later in management, retiring after 42 years. He was a member of the American Legion, American Legion Chorus, was very active in quartet singing, and a member of Kiwanis Club.
Grateful for having shared his life are his wife Jeannine; a sister Rose Gold; a brother Charles; 3 sisters in law, Arlene Kasten, LeNora (Eldon) Johnson, and Ardith (Jim) Otten; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, a sisters Clara and Ulga. www.heritagesfsd.com
