Hazel Kerkhove Obituary
Hazel Kerkhove, 92, of Sioux Falls, passed away on Sunday, November 16, 2014 at Sanford USD Medical Center in Sioux Falls. Funeral services will begin at 2 pm on Friday, November 21 at Faith Lutheran Church in Humboldt. Visitation will begin at 9 am with family present at 6 pm and a prayer service to be held at 7 pm on Thursday at Kinzley Funeral Home in Salem.
Hazel Sandstrom was born on March 10, 1922 near Salem, SD to Arvid and Adeline (Schoebrel) Sandstrom. She was raised in the Salem area and attended country school in McCook County. She married Ernest Kerkhove and they farmed in the Salem area until 1967. They then lived in the Salem and Montrose area until Hazel moved to Sioux Falls in 2006.
Hazel was a member of Faith Lutheran Church in Humboldt and also belonged to the Women of Faith. She enjoyed baking and embroidery and especially loved making jam and baking cookies with her grandchildren. Hazel loved spending time with her family.
She is survived by: her grandchildren that she raised, Christopher (Patti) of Bridgewater and Barb (John) Caratti of Jacksonville, NC, and children, Lavonne (Gerald) Schmeichel of Salem, daughter-in law, Phyllis of Sioux Falls, Dwayne (Donna) of Lennox, Janice (Dan) Kerkhove of Omaha, NE, David (Jean) of Elk Point, Linda (Doug) Schalekamp of Sioux Falls, Ron (Stacy) of Melba, ID, Karen Kerkhove of Sioux Falls, Allen of Lander, WY, and Beverly (Roger) Yager of Papillion, NE; multiple grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren; and numerous other relatives and family members.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Ernest, two sons, Edward and Rich, two brothers, five sisters, and two great grandchildren, Andrea Yager and Abigail Kerkhove. www.kinzleyfh.com
