M. Jean Heffernan

M. Jean Heffernan, 68, of Sioux Falls, died unexpectedly on Wednesday, January 7, 2015. Private family services will be held at a later date. Memorials may be given to the Bishop Dudley House or the Sioux Falls Humane Society.

Mary Jean Heffernan, daughter of Paul and Katheryn (Keegan) Heffernan, was born March 28, 1946 in Sioux Falls, SD. She grew up in Inwood, IA where she graduated from West Lyon High School. She attended Mount Marty College in Yankton, SD where she graduated with a BS. Degree in Medical Technology. She worked in the Sacred Heart Hospital as a registered medical lab technologist, in Yankton, SD. She retired after 30 years, from Royal C. Johnson Memorial Hospital and Veteran's Administration as a registered specialist in microbiology. She taught some classes at National American University in Sioux Falls, SD. She lived life with gusto and left behind two sisters, Sally (Bob) Baker, Scotland, SD and Pat Slamkowski, Ogden Dunes, IN; many nieces, nephews, friends, and her beloved dogs. She was preceded in death by her parents, Paul and Katheryn Heffernan, her sister, Joan Chamberlain; a brother, Jack Heffernan, and a brother-in-law, Jim Slamkowski.

I worked with Jean in the 6o's and 70's at SHH in Yankton - a wonderful woman with a great sense of humor. She will be missed!
