Larry Gene Cool was born to Lawrence Henry and Betty (Cahill) Cool, August 19, 1946, at Mitchell, SD. He grew up in Platte and graduated from Platte High School in 1964.  He attended SDSU in Brookings and later the Chicago School of Mortuary Science, graduating in 1968.  He then became a funeral director, beginning his career as a fourth generation family member in the Cool Funeral Home in Platte.  Larry married Pamela Kay Schamber in 1974 in Scotland, SD, and worked many years in Sioux Falls before accepting a position as a funeral director at Eidsness Funeral Home in Brookings.  In December of 2014 they retired to Diamond Valley in Sioux Falls.

Larry's passion for genealogy kept him busy in retirement.  He also did cemetery mapping for several SD communities.  He was active in the Kidney Foundation of SD, Kiwanis Club in Brookings and the Brookings Area Genealogical Society.  He was a founding member of the Su Fu Du Drum Line and the Spirit of Peace Contemporary Choir in Sioux Falls.  Larry's passion for music led him to entertain in a five-state area for many years.

Survivors include his wife of forty years, Pamela; son and daughter-in-law, James Elliott and Danielle Lila (Tupa) Cool, of Oak Park, IL; his mother, Betty (Cahill) Cool, of Platte; his two brothers, Tom Cool (Sharon) of Sioux Falls and Dan Cool (Linda) of Platte; his mother-in-law, Norma (Kepplinger) Schamber, of Scotland; and special cousins, Jan and John Fox of Hideaway, Texas.

I was so sad to hear of Larry Cools passing. Larry loved music and I had the pleasure of singing with him during my high school years at PHS.

We were friends in the old SDSU days. In one play, Larry was too illl to go on but he did to the applause of the rest of us. He was our hero. I pray he rest in peace.

Larry and I went all 12 years of school together. He so enjoyed the music world both in high school and college. So sorry for his loss.
