Larry C. Feltz, born December 2, 1944 in St. Louis, MO, passed away Wednesday, May 9, 2012. A loving father and brother, proud military veteran, and avid baseball fan, he dedicated his life to helping others.
Larry was the oldest of 11 children raised on Feltz St. in Perryville, MO, where he worked at Roziers, was the co-captain of the football team at St. Vincent High School, and earned the nickname "Dumpsy" for his love of the chicken and dumplings served at the annual Seminary picnic.
After graduating from Loras College in Iowa he joined the Peace Corps and trained thousands of science teachers in the Philippines. He went on to serve 20 years in the U.S. Army Medical Service Corps, Armed Services Blood Program, including tours of duty in Korea and Germany. He retired to Houston, TX, where he was Blood Bank director at St. Luke's Hospital and Houston Northwest Medical Center.
For more than three decades he conducted inspections around the world for AABB. In the final decade of his life, he obtained an M.Ed. in Counseling and worked at the Family Time Crisis and Counseling Center in Humble, and lived in Kingwood.
Larry was a devout Catholic who prayed with his ACTS Brothers, studied Spiritual Directions, and often went to Centering Prayer early Sunday morning before mass. Throughout his various careers, he was a devoted husband and father who showed his children unconditional love. He was rarely happier than when he was enjoying the simple pleasure of eating a good meal or watching a baseball game with them at the ballpark.
He was preceded in death by his father Lawrence W. Feltz, mother Irene L. Feltz, and brothers Timothy and Gabe, and is survived by the mother of his children, Lisa, and children: Renée, Michelle and Chris; two grandchildren, Caleb and Jaden; 8 brothers and sisters, Cookie, Jan, Kaye, Renee, Jay, Sue, Kim, and Jeff; and many extended family members and friends around the world.
