Carl Carlsen Obituary

CARLSEN, Carl Edvin Carl E. Carlsen, age 83 of Dunwoody, Georgia passed away peacefully on February 25, 2015. Carl was born in New York City on January 9, 1932 to Carl Edvin Sr. and Martha Carlsen. He grew up in NYC and later in upstate NY in the town of Durham. Carl served in the Air Force from 1951-1955 stationed in California and Japan. After marriage to Katherina Rithaler in 1957, Carl and family lived in Yorktown Heights NY where he worked for IBM and became a computer programmer. He was highly involved in the early use of computers in manufacturing processes and energy management systems. He was transferred to the Atlanta area in 1976. Carl retired from IBM in December 1989. His interests included computers, yard and home improvement projects, driving trips and spending many years lovingly caring for his children and grandchildren. Carl has been a lifelong Lutheran and was active in various congregations over the years. Carl is survived by his wife of 57 years, Kathy; son Ed and daughter Missy Wilson Braden, their spouses Denise Carlsen and John Braden; grandchildren Tom Carlsen, Nicole and Trevor Wilson, Cody Carlsen and loving relatives and friends in New York, Connecticut and Texas. He was preceded in death by his son Rick and grandson Mark. The family would like to thank the staff of Brighton Gardens Reminiscence Dunwoody and Crossroads Hospice for their loving care and support. A memorial service celebrating Carl's life will be held at Christ the King Lutheran Church, 5575 Peachtree Parkway, Peachtree Corners, GA on Feb 28 at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Carl's name to Christ the King Lutheran Church, Crossroads Hospice, or a charity of your choice.
