One of the sweetest memories I have of Charles is the time we had the Jones Family Reunion in Los Angeles. His family hosted one of the functions which was held at his home. I recall walking in with my family along with our newest member - our daughter Ea. Typically, she he would not go to anyone but for some reason she was immediately drawn to Charles. He held out his arms to her and she easily and comfortably went into them. I think all of us were a bit surprised ,yet happy. He walked around with her for quite a while and needless to say our aching arms appreciated it! I love and miss you Charles. Continue Resting Peacefully . (There´s a photo of them together. If I find it, I´ll post it)

Hi Dad,
I’ve been missing you a lot these last few days. I am preparing for my senior year of college and Victoria is in her final year of law school at your alma mater. She is following in you and mom’s footsteps and I know you would be proud of her. It gets harder and harder to remember you which makes me sad. But I never forget how much you meant to me and the special place you have in my heart. I am filled with pride when I hear stories about how great of a man you were and the positive impact on the lives of others. Everyone says I look like you which I take as a complement. I will continue to make you proud. I wish you were here. Love you Daddy.

Love,

Charles, I try not to think about this day, but was reminded anyway. I know you are watching your little girls and what spectacularly young ladies they have become. Victoria will graduate from Spelman this year and just today we drove to Boston to get Sydney ready for the beginning of her college career at Boston University. Wish you were here...

August 26, 2017

Hi, Charles,
Wow! 17 years today. Time really has flown. Sydney starting college and Victoria will finish college this term. You must certainly be smiling at their accomplishments. The rest of the family is doing well...missing you, of course. Take care and hugs to the others with you! As always, Mom

August 26, 2017

Hi, Charles,

Hmmm, tomorrow would have been your 54th birththday!!
I'm smiling... 1954 was when I met your Dad!
Thinking of him this day and how proud of you he was.

I think of you often as I receive text, emails, news and photos of Victoria and Sydney. As Wayne said earlier...how proud YOU would be of your offspring.
As always,
Mom

October 31, 2016

Hard to believe it's been 12 years since you passed away. Your daughter are doing you proud. Victoria is a junior at Spelman and Sydney is a senior in high school. They would bring a smile to your face.

You're missed every day.

Your big brother - Wayne Jr.

Charles,
Remembering you, son, 11 years later, knowing that all is well in your world. You have left a marvelous legacy and fond memories.
Victoria and Sydney ...you would be so proud of them.

I am shocked and saddened to learn that Charles is gone. I attended L.A. High school with him. He was very intellegent and always kind when I visited his home with my friend who had a crush on him. I am also sad to hear about Iyisa. I had always wondered what became of Charles. It seems he was quite accomplished, and I am not surprised. Rest in Peace.

Hi, Charles: Remembering you on the 52nd anniversary of your birth. These ten years seem to have flown by, but I remember you as though yesterday. I smile knowing that all is well with you and Dad. Over.

November 1, 2014

Charles, These ten years have passed quickly. I think of you often. I just found a picture of your headstone on Google a few days ago. Hmmm, I smiling, you would not know what Google is. Anyway, just stopped by to say again how proud I am of you!! Mom

August 26, 2014

Charles, I just wanted you to know that the girls are doing well--I know that you are looking down so proud that Victoria has chosen to attend Spelman being the proud Morehouse man that you were. She is adjusting well, made the Morehouse cheerleading squad and is settling in nicely. Sydney is quite busy--she is adjusting to her sophomore year at school and plays both varsity volleyball and club soccer this fall--she is captain of the club team. They are all that you wanted them to be--smart, independant, loving, and strong. They miss you. R.I.P.

Good morning, Charles. It was a morning like this 49 years ago. In about 4 hours you will make your first appearance! I think about you often. I thought you would also like me to wish Leslie a Happy Birthday, too. So off I go to do that. Hi to Iyisa, your grandparents and the rest of the family!

Top of the day to you, Charles, on this, the start of the 48th year of my memories of you. You are always in my heart.

More family joined you this year... Iyisa and Dante. Kyra and Joannie plan to visit your resting place later today.

I spent much time thinking of your Dad yesterday...his third year away from us. And that's alright. I will see all of you, I know, "in that great gettin' up morning"!

Remembering what the Morehouse Men sang at your graduation ceremony...
Fare ye well, my son, fare ye well.

Victoria and Sydney are both beautiful and intelligent young girls. They are doing well in school and they both keep in touch with their cousins. You should be proud of them both.

Anyhow, please know that you are missed and loved. Keep smiling down on us from your place in heaven...

Today is the 46th anniversary of God gifting your Dad and I with you, our second beautiful, healthy baby boy.

Yesterday was a year since Dad joined you in eternity.

This looks to be a historic time in the next three days. Though I would 'wish' for you both yo be here to witness November 4th, I know you have been given much better "seats"! I'll be listening for your shouts!

My Dearest Charles,

I can't believe it has been a year since you decided to leave us. My heart continues to break, but with God's Grace we are surviving.

The girls are doing well. They did well in school last year. Sydney, in spite of everything, still managed to be the only one in her class to make the Principal's List. They traveled to Bermuda for Gwen's wedding and spent the summer hanging out with friends next door, with Grandma and at the beach. School started a couple of weeks ago and so far so good. They miss you greatly and just hope that you are OK now.

I pray that you have found the peace that you were seeking.

My love always,

Sharing this tribute to Charles...

AILEY, BALDWIN, FLOYD, KILLENS, and MAYFIELD

by Maya Angelou

When great trees fall,

rocks on distant hills shudder,

lions hunker down

in tall grasses,

and even elephants

lumber after safety.

When great trees fall

in forests,

small things recoil into silence,

their senses

eroded beyond fear.

When great souls die,

the air around us becomes

light, rare, sterile.

We breathe, briefly.

Our eyes, briefly,

see with

a hurtful clarity.

Our memory, suddenly sharpened,

examines,

gnaws on kind words

unsaid,

promised walks

never taken.

Great souls die and

our reality, bound to

them, takes leave of us.

Our souls,

dependent upon their

nurture,

now shrink, wizened.

Our minds, formed

and informed by their

radiance,

fall away.

We are not so much maddened

as reduced to the unutterable ignorance

of dark, cold

caves.

And when great souls die,

after a period peace blooms,

slowly and always

irregularly. Spaces fill

with a kind of

soothing electric vibration.

Our senses, restored, never

to be the same, whisper to us.

They existed. They existed.

We can be. Be and be

better. For they existed.
