Paul Abstein Obituary

Family-Placed Death Notice

Paul Edward Abstein, 59, of Atlanta, GA, passed away on November 22, 2004, after a long illness. Paul was the owner of Abstein Gallery of Art. In the 30 years of Abstein Gallery, Paul inspired and coached the hundreds of artists represented in the gallery to produce their finest work. His many clients were able to place this fine work in their homes or businesses. February 14 was the anniversary of the gallery and each year, Mr. Abstein would have a special opening at the gallery for the artists showcasing the exceptional art and artist and always having lovely music, happy and eager clients and as always-chocolate covered strawberries. Paul's other passions included tending his beautiful flower gardens, scuba diving and deep sea fishing. Born in Fort Pierce, FL, Paul lived in Atlanta since 1972. He is survived by his cherished friends, the artists of Abstein Gallery; loving sister, June Dunn; mother, Cammie Black; sister, Jean Barker, all of Fort Pierce; and brothers, John Cochran of Stuart, Fl and Donny Abstein of Texas. A memorial service will be at H. M. Patterson and Son Spring Hill Chapel on December 4, 2004, at 3:00 PM, with a reception immediately following at the Abstein Gallery, 558 14th St., Atlanta, GA. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Atlanta College of Art, 1280 Peachtree St, Atlanta, GA, 30305 or Portsbridge Hospice Foundation, PO Box 1870, Fayetteville, GA, 30214. H. M. I knew Paul before he moved to Atlanta and have fond memories of days in Ft Pierce with Paul. I was so sorry to learn of his death when I recently tried to find the address of the Gallery in Atlanta. Paul will be greatly missed. How I wish I had been able to see him before his death. Just a friend from long ago, Barbara Swartz

I was one of Paul's artists for many years in the late 80's and early 90's. He would always cringe when I would show up with at least one yellow painting. He hated my yellow paintings. Then he would promptly sell it, telling me of the news with his half smirk, half loving smile. It was our little dance. I will remember him fondly as I paint my next yellow piece. All my best to his family and friends. Jay

I have been a member of Paul's gallery of artists for only 2 years, but it was my professional dream to be accepted there. He made me work hard and I appreciated his every comment on my work. He made me a better artist. I will greatly miss his critiques, his "salesability" and especially his friendship.

My condolences to the family of Paul.

Paul was a major influence in the art and framing community of Atlanta.

He was always there to help me and give advice over the 30 years of our friendship and working together in the industry.

He was the best and most creative at what he loved.

My condolences to the family. Paul meant a great deal to me and was, in my estimation, an exeptional human being. I'll miss him.
