Family-Placed Death Notice
BROWN, Wayne K. WAYNE K. BROWN Wayne K. Brown died peacefully, surrounded by his family, on October 6, 2012. Wayne was an icon of the radio industry and a devoted husband who had been married to the love of his life, Neysa Dillon Brown, for 24 years and father of Dylan, 21 and Drew, 18. In the early 1980's Wayne started his broadcast career at CBS Television Network and in 1982 joined CBS Radio as an Account Executive for the network's flagship NY station, CBS NewsRadio 88. By 1990, Wayne had become the station's General Sales Manager. In 1991, he relocated to Charlotte, NC, to lead Broadcast Partners, Inc.'s mainstream Urban, Urban Adult Contemporary and Black Gospel AM radio stations. In Charlotte, Wayne developed a passion for selling the active Black consumer to targeted advertisers and key accounts. Wayne brought that passion with him to Atlanta nine years later, when he joined Radio One, as Vice President and Regional Manager of its Atlanta, Charlotte and Raleigh/Durham properties. In addition, he served as General Manager of Radio One's stations in Atlanta. At the time of his death, Wayne served as President and CEO of WKB Enterprises, Inc., and Station Manager\ Director of Sales for Streetz 94.5 FM, Atlanta's newest hip-hop station, and Senior Partner and Atlanta Associate Publisher of Who's Who Publishing. Wayne was a life member of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc., a member of the 100 Black Men of America and First Congregational Church in Atlanta. Among his many community service activities, he served on the boards of directors of the Atlanta March of Dimes, True Colors Theater Company and Atlanta Association of Diabetes Walk America. Wayne will be remembered for the mentorship he provided to hundreds of young people pursuing careers in entertainment and broadcasting. A Memorial Service & Celebration of Life for Wayne K. Brown will take place on Thursday, October 11, 2012 at 4:00pm at Ebenezer Baptist Church, Horizon Chapel, 407 Auburn Avenue, Atlanta, GA 30312. I was blessed to meet Wayne Brown in early 90s when he was climbing the corporate ladder at CBS. He was gracious enough to grant me encouragement and wisdom concerning the do's and don'ts of the business. His NY grit, determination, & NUPE sytle made him a person to admire. My heart is completely full & pouring out as his passing reminds me of my father who also died due to liver cancer. I pray the strength of God's joy and peace comfort those he worked diligently to provide for with memories of a tough, loving, kind, & good man who set the standard. RIP Big Bro.

I am brokenhearted at Wayne's passing. He and his family have been part of my family for my entire life, and I have known him as a devoted and loving husband, father, brother, and son. Yet, because of the quiet pride of his family and his own modesty, until now I have been largely unaware of the full extent of his personal achievements, generosity of spirit, and incredibly positive influence on his community and the lives of so many striving to find their way in this world. My heart goes out to you, his family and friends. May you all find peace and solace in your memories of him, and comfort in knowing that our world is a far better place for his having been in it.

It seems like yesterday we were playing football, baseball, basketball in the"alley" What a great community we grew up in. Wayne was always a leader, Captain of our drill team and other activities, Always competitive and always a great sense of humor.I feel a great sadness and joy, Sad because of his passing but so much joy that he made this world a better place. Sometimes the brightest star burns out the quickest, but they have lit the way for so many people while they were here. He was part of the 16th, 17th, Dst and Cst community, even though we haven't talked to each other as much over the years, we are still family . I will miss Wayne, but if we believe we will see each other again. To his wife , sons and Mom and Dicky you have my heartfelt sympathy. May he rest in peace. Much Love, Terry M Turner and Family ..

I attended the Memorial Services for Wayne this afternoon. I knew him through our membership in the 100 Black Men of Atlanta. However, I feel as if I REALLY got to know him after he reached out to assist my daughter a few years ago on a project she was working on. He didn't know she was my daughter, but after finding out, he would always ask me how she was doing and to give her his regards and best wishes. We have lost another true "Prince" of a man. Rest in Peace My Brother!

To the Brown Family: Neysa, Dillon, & Drew. Our Thoughts and prays are with during your time of bereavement. There is no sorrow heaven cannot heal.
I admire the fact that Wayne came and stayed long after Drew was done with his events. To watch our daughter run her track and field events. That speaks volume for us and we really appreciated his support. He was a personable man, and made you feel so special it was never about him it was all about you.
God Bless you,

Lord, Your arms and the gates of Heaven must be as WIDE open as they can be for the soul of Wayne K. Brown. Neysa, Dylan and Drew, you generously shared your beloved husband and father with hundreds of people you will never know whose lives were so much improved, as well as the lives of their children and the families who depended on us and us on Wayne. That's quite a legacy. Too young! His world still needed him here but He has claimed him and sometimes life is not very fair. Wayne's world of friends and loved ones deeply mourns this loss. God bless us all at this sad, sad time.

Since I first heard of Wayne's passing, I have been praying for his loved ones and shaking my head in unbelief. It's hard to imagine Wayne being gone. From the first time I met him in high school until the last time I saw him at Tech 74's reunion dinner/dance in December 2011, he was always a gentleman, the epitome of cool, always about his business, and an all-around great guy! He was highly respected and highly regarded, and I'm proud to say I knew him all these years. Wayne ... you will never be forgotten.
To the Brown family ... hold tight to God. He is always there to comfort you and to wipe your tears.

I feel so very lucky to have known Wayne, I looked up to him on his many visits back to Syracuse University. As an undergrad, it was such an inspiration to have Wayne return to SU and share his knowledge. What a wonderful mentor, genuinely interested and always helpful.
I had the pleasure of working with Wayne at Radio-One in Atlanta--never full of himself, always approachable, thoughtful and helpful.
I can only hope that his family--especially his sons--can find strength and comfort in the thoughts, words and memories of all who knew Wayne--he was a talented and gifted man--a GIANT.
