Family-Placed Death Notice
CHANDLER, Alexander Fayette County resident Alexander Shi Gray Chandler, 25, died in a motorcycle accident in Clayton County on the morning of September 24. A carpenter, builder, and draftsman by trade, Alex was a member of the Newnan-Coweta Lions Club and Liberty Baptist Church of Riverdale. He was very active in the Libertarian Party and attended its 2008 National Convention in Denver as a Georgia delegate and was a Libertarian activist in Fayette County. After graduating Macintosh High School in Peachtree City he attended Atlanta Metropolitan Technical College where he studied drafting. An Eagle Scout and true woodsman, he served as an assistant scoutmaster of Troop 123 of Zebulon, Ga. His two middle names commemorate family friend Shi Gray Holmes of Zebulon. His commitment to fellowship, service, and volunteerism will continue to inspire his family, friends and community. Alex Chandler is survived by his parents Ruth Goeller Chandler and Walker Lawrence Chandler of Molena and Peachtree City, brother Zebulon Kelly Chandler of Atlanta, sister Canada Johanna Gordon and her husband Kirby Smith and step brother Aaron Gordon of Los Angeles, as well as his dog Escher. Other surviving family include, grandmother Nedra Goeller and aunt and uncles Bill & Cynthia Ketner and Gary Goeller of West Virginia, Dr. James & Carol Chandler Dew, Dr. & Mrs. David Jones, Tommy & Judy Jones, and Mark & Barbara Chandler, all of Atlanta, as well as numerous cousins. A memorial service for Alex Chandler will be held at Friendship Presbyterian Church on Pedenville Road north of Concord in beautiful Pike County at 3 PM on Sunday, October 11, 2009.
