Bob Adams


Family-Placed Death Notice

Adams, Bob, 76, of Birmingham, Al went to be with the Lord on May 14, 2005. Bob was born in Atlanta in 1928 and moved to Birmingham in 1959 with his wife Colleen and son Joe. In 1963, Bob founded ADCO Boiler Company and worked until retirement at the age of 65. Bob has had many accomplishments in his lifetime but none more important than being a loving husband for 59 years, Father, Grandfather, and Great Grandfather. Bob had a very fulfilling life and touched many people with his good humor. He was a member of Shades Mountain Independent Church for 30 years, did missionary work with World Reach, going to Kenya every year for nine years, building churches, digging wells and a cestrum. His favorite weekly activity was to attend Bible Study at Don and Betty Harrison's Home on Saturday Morning. Another part of Bob's life was working in Little Theater, Actor's Theatre and Center Players for over 20 years. He played many leading roles in plays such as Anna Christi by Eugene O'Neal, Tobacco Road, The Gin Game, Time and Eternity, Send Me No Flowers, and many others. Bob is preceded in death by his mother, Letha Holloway, his father Oscar Edward Adams; Step father Robert D. Holloway; and Brother Gerald Holloway. He is survived by his loving wife Colleen Adams; Son Joe (Betty Jo) Adams; Sister, Brenda Rawlins of Hampton, GA; Brother Otis (Sherry) Holloway of Eatonton, GA; Grandchildren Courtney (Chad) Byrd and Taylor (Katie) Adams; Great Granddaughter Alli Byrd. Bob's family would also like to thank Beverly Taylor for the extended care she gave to Bob over the past year and a half. She is our newest family member. In Lieu of flowers, we ask that donations be made to World Reach or Shades Mountain Christian School, 2281 Old Tyler Rd. Birmingham, Al 35226. There will be a visitation Monday, May 16 from 5 PM until 7 PM at Southern Heritage Funeral Home. The funeral services will be on Tuesday, May 17 at 12 PM at Shades Mountain Independent Church: Southern Heritage Funeral Home will be directing.
