BALLARD, Donald Donald M. Ballard, age 80, passed away with his loving daughters by his side on Monday, June 23, 2014 in Atlanta, Georgia. Born July 21, 1933 in Statesville, North Carolina to Marvin and Ada Ballard, he started his 38-year career with AT&T in Charlotte, North Carolina and then traveled around the southern states with the company and his beloved wife Jean Mitchell Ballard, raising their family in New Orleans, Louisiana, and Birmingham, Alabama before settling in for a long and lovely life in Atlanta, Georgia. While the list of accomplishments was long, he was most proud of his service in the United States Air Force, and higher education at Mitchell College and Catawba College in North Carolina, as well as a Masters in Business Administration from Loyola University New Orleans. Don was an avid golfer and spent many a sunny day on the fairways of Country Club of the South, or he could be found perfecting his beautiful garden and making neighbors envious as a regular "yard of the month" club winner. With his passing, he will join our other family members whom we have recently lost, including his wife Jean Ballard (2010), grandson Grant Webb (2010) and son Don Ballard Jr. (2011). Survivors include his daughters, Carre Queen and Ashley Miller (Lon), and grandchildren Clark Webb, Alex Ballard, Mathew Ballard, Kelsey Queen and Peyton Miller, great grandson Daniel Webb, and sister Carolyn Harwell and nephew Layton Harwell. Family and close friends will celebrate his life at Arlington Memorial Park on Saturday, June 28, 2014 at 1:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are welcome and should be directed to Hospice Atlanta who provided exceptional care and support to our family during this most difficult time. Donations should be sent to: Office of Advancement Visiting Nurse Health System 5775 Glenridge Drive, Suite E200 Atlanta, Georgia 30328.
