Edward Henry Gilliam was born in Detroit, Michigan, on January 29, 1945. He departed this life on January 27, 2005. He was the first born of four children. Edward graduated from Nordonia High School in 1964 and immediately enlisted in the United States Marine Corps. He served his fellow man and country for the next three years, including a tour of duty in Vietnam, where he received the Vietman Service Medal with One Star, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Good Conduct Medal and a Rifle Marksman Badge. His career was in the masonry field as a bricklayer. Edward was a generous, kindhearted man who was loved by many. He was humble and unpretentious. He would literally give the shirt off his back to help another person. He had many passions, including classic films and computers, but nothing topped the love he had for his children. Edward was preceded in death by his loving parents, James and Marie Gillam. Edward leaves to cherish their hearts: three children, Schauna (Benjamin) White of Temple, GA; Daunette Gillam of Detroit, Michigan; Edward Gillam of Oceanside, California. Siblings: James (Connie) Gillam, Jr. of Stone Mountain, Georgia; Deborah Gillam-Kelly of Fairfax, Virginia; Linda (Ed) Gillam of Traverse City, Michigan. Grandchildren: Jacob, Edward II, and Kiara. Aunts: Mabel (Henry) White, Deloris (Sherman) Sharpe, Patricia (John, Sr.) McLeod, all of Detroit; Roxie (Robert) Kinney of Aiken, South Carolina. Uncles: Benjamin Carr and George D.
