Family-Placed Death Notice

MCMICHAEL, Elmer Mr. Elmer Lawyer "Mike" McMichael, age 79, of Concord, GA, passed away May 1, 2008 at his residence. He was born in Iowa City, Iowa to the late Rev. Glenn W. McMichael and Eleanor Lawyer McMichael. He was a graduate of the University of Iowa, a Major in the United States Air Force where he flew C-119 airplanes during World War II and was a pilot for Eastern Airlines for 33 years, retiring as a Captain. Mr. McMichael was a member of the retired Eastern Pilots Association, the Silver Falcons and QB's. After retiring, he flew for Grand Canyon Airways. He was a member of the Griffin Country Club and past master of the Tri-County Fox Hunt in Griffin. He was also a 32nd Degree Mason, past Worshipful Master and A Shriner for over 40 years and a member of Cascade Masonic Lodge #288 in Newnan. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Oramarie. He is survived by his wife: Janey McMichael; daughter and son-in-law, Judy and Terry Barker of Jonesboro; step-son; Dwight Davis of FL; Grandchildren, Ashley Buice and husband James of Jonesboro, Justin Davis and Kyle Davis of FL; great-granddaughter; Chelsea Buice; brother and sister-in-law; Gleason and Jan McMichael of Evergreen, CO; numerous nieces and nephews. It was Mr. McMichael's wish to be cremated. His memorial services will be held on Wednesday, May 7 at 4 o'clock in the chapel of Moody Funeral Home with Dr. Jay Hodges officiating. Friends may visit the family on Wednesday after the service. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Retired Eastern Pilots Scholarship Foundation, Auburn University, 415 W. Magnolia, Suite 516, Auburn, AL 36849 or the Masonic Children's Home Endowment Fund, Grand Lodge of GA, 811 Mulberry St., Macon, GA 31201 in memory of Mr. Michael.
